About the Club
Mevagissey Rowing Club stems from the days when rowing wasn’t as competitive as it is today. The club formed in 1986 and by the following year, through fund raising and help from Sports England, Mevagissey were able to order their first boat, Endeavour.
We pride ourselves on keeping the original traditions alive, striving to do the best that we can on the water. whilst maintaining a sociable club that might even strike up the odd sing song.
Endeavour was the first of the Mevagissey fleet, purchased in 1987 (£9000). Endeavour is built from Cornish Narrow Leaf Elm planking on Oak Frames, which were sourced from the Tregothnan Estate in Tresilllian and built to the specifications of the Newquay Gig, the Treffry.
Over the years the club increased its fleet with Sowenna (1991 – 2006) and Kerens (2002 – 2008). Both boats were later sold to fund the arrival of Endurance, Silver Fox (GRP) and Lannvorek.
The latest addition in 2015 was Elowen, with Endurance sold to provide funds.
