We are passionate about Gig rowing and that is shown in the standard of our boats, the dedication we display to the traditions of the sport and the time we spend with anyone wanting to get on to the water, whether that’s socially or to race.

What is Gig Rowing?

Gig Rowing is an inclusive team sport and leisure activity that provides an opportunity to get out on the water, taking in the beautiful Cornish coastline.

1988 saw the founding of the Cornish Pilot Gig Association (CPGA) in a cottage in Devoran. A boat builder named Ralph Bird, along with Mevagissey Rowing Club and 11 other Cornish clubs planted the seed of what is now one of the fastest growing sports in the UK, covers over 8 countries and represents over 8500 fixed seat rowers.

There are numerous competitive events held throughout the year, culminating in the annual World Championships held on the Isles of Scilly.
